Weird thing happened to me this morning (either that or i'm going mad)!

I've had the Galaxy since July and love it, it's a 55 plate so pretty new and never given me a problem ;)

At about 8am, the alarm went off, i didn't even know it had an alarm - it was the horn going on and off for about 20 seconds.

Went out to check to discover both the front electric windows were open an inch or 2 for no apparent reason and it had rained on the driver side window/central locking controls.

Turned the ignition on, closed the windows, turned the ignition off, and walked to work.

I assume the alarm went off when it detected air movement or morning traffic that it could hear through the open windows or something?

The thing that bugs me, is how did the windows open. Last time i took the car out was Saturday, and if by some oddity that i did leave the windows open, why didn't the alarm go off earlier, it's been windy enough!

I think the windows opened themselves, as daft as that sounds!

Anyone ever heard of this happening before?

Welcome

I had a similar prob with windows, I still don't know what cured it, no wet footwell, wires ok in door, I did wiggle wires behind fusebox and not had problem since. I don't have an alarm or remote locking, probably have one of them gremlins though.

If it persists I'd suggest getting it plugged in and the fault codes read.

Hi, this has happened to me too, on Wednesday morning I was leaving for work and found that my front and rear windows where open half way, that night we had heavy rain but there was no water in the vehicle and the doors where locked this has really spoked me, I wake in the night to keep a eye on the vehicle I am still looking into finding the root cause behind this mystery.

Is it possible that the key fob has been activated in some way, for example, sitting on the key when it's in ones back pocket? With our Mk2 Galaxy if you hold the unlock button the windows start to open - they stop when the button is released - with the windows open the alarm could go off due to air movement in the car.

I've seen lots of early Gal's where the windows and alarms have been working strangley , usually turned out to be water getting into car and flooding the control units which could be behind the dash or commonly under 1 of the front seats (usually pass seat). Alot of the leaks were traced to the drain tubes being blocked with leaves or debris just under where the pollen filter is but on both sides, this would lead to water collecting and getting into the car and flooding it. Although not always noticable when looking as there is alot of sound deadening/insulation under the carpet but worth a check.

Cant say I have seen it on the MK2's though but it might be worth checking for water leaking into the car if it happened on a rainy day as it seems too coincidental (think the spelling is right)

I had a similar problem with the ghost last night. The alarm went off (never heard it before) at about 5.15am in stormy weather. When I checked on the car the front passenger window was open about 3 inches letting in loads of wind and rain which I suppose set off the alarm. The carpet under the foot mat and areas under the seats were dry.

At least it's good to know that my alarm does work :-)

There's an awful lot of RF energy flying around these days and around a similar frequency that the remote fobs operate on ........ have you ever noticed that all of a sudden everyones car alarm goes off at the same time, especially at air displays ...... very spooky! ....

if all the windows come down about the same level its the total close system which if

its doing it when you dont want it to will almost certainly be a probley with one of the

front door locks ( even if you use the remote to open and close them )

best way to sort it is wd40 everything to do with locking system inside and

outside the door

if its just one window i could be a brokern wire in the door rubber ?

I think you will find this is down to Water ingress on the door loom from the A pillar to the door, remove door trim (not a nice job) clean and dry wires/switch, seal with Electrical Grease.

Same problem occurred last night; I returned to my 55 plate Galaxy 1.9TDI which had been parked for 2hrs to find that after about 2hrs and found all four electric widows were down by about 1.5 inch. There had been bursts of very heavy rain throughout the day and some rain during the 2hr period but the inside of the car seemed dry.

Did previous correspondents find the cause of the problem? Where do I start to look to sort this out.

Thanks bj2004 - I shall look this up, and also enquire of another Galaxy owner who parks in the vacinity where this happened.

My previous Galaxy had windows with a mind of their own - tracked to a wiring loom faults in the front door hinge area - a not unknown fault.

As with transient problems, the cause of the problem on my newer 55plate Galaxy may take a while to track down.
